At the
start of the TLM1010 module, I was not confident with my ability to speak in a
public setting. As we progressed through the trimester, I was presented with multiple
opportunities to speak publicly. And through these opportunities and feedback from
my professor and fellow course mates, I am more confident in speaking in front
of a large audience.
Through
this Technical communication module, I was taught the proper way to write formal
reports, letters, and emails. Prior to this module I was not aware of the
importance of a proper citation and referencing in a report and was having a
lot of trouble with citation while writing my product analysis. While coming up
with the slide’s idea for our oral presentation, I learned that it was not necessary
to fill the slides with pointers as I was taught in my time in Polytechnic.
I was
surprised but felt grateful to be given a chance to present at the 4th
annual presentation showcase. Presenting in front of the whole cohort of
Telematics students took me a lot of courage. But ultimately with the
encouragement and tips given by my groupmate, I was able to get through the presentation
with minimal mistakes.
While
watching other groups present, I was able to pick up on a few things that that I
need to improve going forward. For example, I saw how proper posture can boost your
confidence in speaking. I also need to speak at a slower pace and not rely on a
script written beforehand as I can easily forget the script and lose my train
of thoughts.
In
conclusion, I am both grateful and thankful for the effort put in by my professor
and fellow course mates as I was taught various skills that I can utilize and
apply them in the future.
